SDCC INTERVIEW: "iZombie" Co-Producer Wants to Write Wonder Woman Movie !!!!

In an interview with CBR News, "iZombie" and "Veronica Mars" co-writer and co-producer Diane Ruggiero-Wright revealed her desire to write a Wonder Woman film.

"All I want to do in the world is Wonder Woman," she said. "Every time I see [DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer] Geoff Johns, I staple him to things and I'm like, 'Let me pitch you Wonder Woman.' And he's like, 'You know it's already happening. They're filming it right now,' and I'm like, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah, but...'"

While she may not be able to write a Wonder Woman film just yet (there's always the sequel!), she did tell CBR that she is writing a Wonder Woman digital comic, presumably an arc in DC Comics' digital-first series "Sensation Comics featuring Wonder Woman."

SDCC: "The Walking Dead" Cast & Crew Spread Season 6 Details, Previews & More

AMC's "The Walking Dead" Comic-Con International panel is being recorded LIVE. Stay tuned for more details!

"The Walking Dead" stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Chandler Riggs, Sonequa Martin-Green, Michael Cudlitz, and Lennie James joined executive producer and showrunner Scott M. Gimple, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, executive producer Dave Alpert and special effects makeup supervisor and executive producer Greg Nicotero on the main Hall H on Friday afternoon at Comic-Con International to discuss the upcoming sixth season of the show. Though scheduled to attend, executive producer Robert Kirkman was unable to make the panel due to a minor throat surgery that left him unable to speak temporarily.

Moderator Chris Hardwick of "The Talking Dead" fame opened the panel with a roar of approval from the audience. "This is technically the 'Talking Dead' panel if you think about it," he joked.

Hardwick announced that season six will premiere on Sunday, October 11 at 9 pm with a 90-minute premiere, with "The Talking Dead" to follow at 10:30. AMC will also kick off a "Walking Dead" marathon at Sunday, July 26 at 2 pm so that fans who missed out on the previous season would have a chance to catch up.

Hardwick then rolled the official trailer for season six, which finds Rick (Lincoln) running down an abandoned street, dirty and bloody. He then bumps into Morgan and explains the sheltered nature of Alexandria. The shot cuts to Rick standing before the people of Alexandria, taking charge of the situation, only to be challenged by one of the not-so-docile town members. The trailer showed multiple quick cuts of the zombie hordes and the town members cowering. A line from Morgan implies that he will try to kick Rick out of Alexandria for good, which cuts to a shot of Rick holding a gun to Morgan's head. It also featured an epic escape and takedown by Daryl Dixon. With a haunting song over it, the trailer met the thunderous applause of the audience.

"I heard a lot of gasps when someone pointed a gun at Daryl there," Hardwick said. "I'm nervous too! I know what you would all do if something were to happen to him!"

Hardwick then introduced the cast members and crew one-by-one. Each of them wore a gray shirt with a picture of Kirkman on the front, to represent the missing executive producer. McBride took the stage with a plate full of cookies, referencing an ominous scene from the previous season.

"[Kirkman] is now here in T-shirt form," Hardwick said, after explaining why "The Walking Dead" creator wasn't in attendance.

"'The Walking Dead' premiere is going to Madison Garden," Gimple announced. "All these people can be there! Go to www.amc.com/thewalkingdead to join us at the premiere in October."

"This is a savvy audience that knows that we sometimes play with the truth in trailers," Gimple said, responding to a question about Rick and Morgan's relationship this season. "With the end of season six, [Rick] wanted everyone on board with him, and that went pretty well."

"Aside from the person he shot," Hardwick added.

Gimple agreed. "Things may not be as they seem, but Rick has to deal with the fact that things down with Rich and Pete."

"There's a little bit of flashback, there's definitely some playing with time, but definitely not as much as last time," he added.

Andrew Lincoln took the next question, which concerned Rick's beard. "My wife doesn't miss the beard, but I think that was one of the most weird filming days of my life. I had to shower naked in front of the crew of my show… You could see like two inches of my buttcrack. And then I had to shave in the mirror… doing it on camera was unbearable. Yeah, I miss that beard and I'm going to grow that back as soon as possible."

"Steven Yeung told me I looked like I had a shrunken head," Lincoln recounted.

"The beard on the show is really a metric of where Rick is at," Gimple added. "I will say the beard will continue to inform. It's a barometer of where Rick is at."

"I think that there's a respect between Deanna and Rick," Lincoln shared." In the last three or four episodes, you saw a man restraining himself to lead. He realizes he's amongst innocents… I had a zombie shower at the end. When Pete came in, he slashes Reg and I shot him. It was an execution. I was going to do it anyway, but…"

"A lot of the themes we're exploring is them [the Alexandrians] and us," Lincoln explained.

"And then you have Morgan," Hurd pitched in. "He is damn good fighting with that stick."

"I've always yearned for more interaction between Carol and Michonne, because I just adore Carol," Gurira revealed. "I think they're two tactics of trying to handle this world couldn't be more different. I think she's catching up with where Carol is. I think she understands that what Carol is doing is for the protection of the group… but I don't think Michonne agrees with what she's doing. Michonne was really getting the landscape of where she was."

"Throughout last season, we were broken down… and then Michonne started to see Glen getting broken down, and the idea that we could get to the point to where Michonne has been is very scary," she added.

"From the moment of actually neutralizing Rick, I was like, 'Wow, I have to punch Rick?!' It was such a weird moment for me."

"You did hit me," Lincoln pitched in.

"That's the take they used!" Gurira said in defense.

"I was completely lying about the flashback question earlier," Gimple said, switching tracks. "I'm working on an episode that's entirely a flashback. This is the truth."

"I was completely lying about the flashback question earlier," Gimple said, switching tracks. "I'm working on an episode that's entirely a flashback. This is the truth."

In response to a question about the tense scene with Nathanial at the end of the episode, Yueng joked, "He's got beautiful eyes." On a more serious note, he responded, "Glen is a better person than me. I also asked why I didn't kill him. It's layered; Glen is seeing a version of himself in him. Glen also see, in that moment, that he has one. It serves no function in that moment to kill him, except for himself, and if he crosses that threshold… he saw another iteration of himself if he lived in those walls. It was a chance of hopefully him being redeemed. It was mostly Glen trying to save himself… Glen was trying to save any part of the old world that he could."

"Lauren couldn't be here because she's visiting family, but know that she loves every single one of you," Yeung added. "They overlap on many things, and one of those things is to hold on to that semblance of humanity they have so that they can be together in this world."

When asked what he thought Morgan was doing between all these seasons, James said, "We'll find out what Morgan has been doing with himself this season. He's been trying to find Rick, and he kind of wishes he hadn't."

"Morgan and Rick have a particular kind of man love, and I think the fact that Morgan has gone to find Rick… Rick is the last person alive on the planet that knows Morgan… that's why he goes to find him. They meet in such an important moment at the end of the last season, and there will be fallout from that," James added.

"I think he sees Alexandria as a restart button," Riggs said of his character. "He kind of went into shock when he went to in that room [at Alexandria]. I think for him, he sees their vulnerability. People still need to know how to survive in case they want to survive outside those walls. He has sympathy for the kids living in Alexandria, and he wants to show them how life is outside the walls."

"Michonne is the one person in that place that gets how it is outside the wall, so he relates to her, so that's why he enjoys going outside the wall with her. I don't know how they'd react if they found out," Riggs added.

"It's probably better that Michonne never knows," Gurira said slyly. "She was always kind of able to relate to him as a friend. You can't say to him, 'You can't leave here!' I think she would find that to be a disrespectful way to treat him. But she wants him to be safe."

"I hope Sonya finds healing in season six," Martin-Green pitched in. "It's been an honor to play someone with PTSD. You hope there is light at the end of the tunnel, and not just live but thrive. I hope she finds a way to respond to correctly to the deaths of her most loved ones. If she were to get to that healed place, she'd see that she didn't respond correctly… It's time to actually pay homage to their lives and live with hope, they way they wanted me to."

Leatherface Scrible to Bring Roche Limit to the Big Screen !!!!

Though they have certainly taken over the convention in recent years, big budget superhero tentpoles aren’t the only movies to get announced at San Diego Comic-Con. Case in point, Image Comics’ science fiction/horror piece Roche Limit has just been given a one-way ticket to the big screen.

The news comes from THR, who report that Leatherface scribe Seth Sherwood will pen the film adaptation for Heavy Metal’s Jeff Krelitz, David Boxenbaum and Brian Witten. Created by Michael Moreci in 2014, Roche Limit tells the story of a space colony that has devolved into “a melting pot of crime and terrible secrets,” and a mystery surrounding a missing girl.

A science fiction tale with elements of horror, Roche Limit initially ran for five issues and is now in the middle of its second five-story arc, Roche Limit: Clandestiny. Though Sherwood’s adaptation is said to only include the first story, Moreci has a trilogy of comics planned, so if successful, the film adaptation could lead into a new film franchise.

Moreci himself expressed his excitement about the news:

“It’s such a unique book and it needs that particular vision. To have people that really get it, I think it makes a difference.”

Tell us, are you excited for a Roche Limit adaptation? Sound off in the comments below.

James Gunn Raves About Ant-Man, Calls It A “Complete Blast” !!!!

ant-man-movie-marvel-comedy-casting

Marvel fans the world over are holding their breath in anticipation of the first reviews for next month’s Ant-Man hitting the web, and luckily for the fans and filmmakers alike, advance buzz is overwhelmingly positive. Now, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is adding his two cents.

Readers may remember how Gunn elegantly responded to Edgar Wright’s controversial departure from the director’s chair at a time when accusations were flying back and forth like an angry Asgardian. Now, he’s had a chance to finally see what replacement helmer Peyton Reed and company have come up with – and it sounds like he’s a big fan.

MORE NEWS FROM THE WEB

Posting on Facebook, Gunn said the following:

Ant-Man may just be my favorite Marvel film since Jon Favreau’s Iron Man (well, maybe excluding one film to which I’m partial). Honestly, the movie is a complete blast! I was so happy after seeing it. It’s never boring for a second and it’s hilarious and warm throughout. It doesn’t get caught up in the webbing of its own science-fiction concept like so many movies do these days, remaining simple and elegant.

It’s a part of the Marvel universe without being ruled by that fact. Paul Rudd is nuanced and charming and funny and is a surprisingly natural fit as a modern superhero (side-fact – Paul must be a nice guy, because he and I dated the same girl in college, and yet I still love him). Michael Peña KILLS IT – this movie is going to make him a huge star. My old pal Judy Greer (she was Deadly Girl to my Minute Man in The Specials (film) many moons ago) is great in a small role. And Michael Douglas is awesome. I think all of Peyton Reed’s years directing have led him to making something as deft and nimble and joyous as this; he did an incredible job. And, despite Edgar Wright’s parting from Marvel, his spirit is felt through the entire project, and there is no doubt everyone owes him a huge debt of gratitude. I left the theater incredibly happy. So often I see movies by people I love which are just okay – it’s great to love a movie as much as I love the people who made it.

This is a photo of me and David Dastmalchian at the premiere after-party last night – David plays a Russian hacker in the movie and nearly every single line out of his mouth gets a laugh. He’s getting on a plane this morning to fly back to Colombia to resume filming his other movie – my movie, The Belko Experiment.

Congrats to the the whole Ant-Man team. Amazing work, guys! And, for the 99.99% of the people reading this who aren’t part of the Ant-Man team, go check it out when it hits theaters (in a lot of places) July 17.

Have a great Tuesday.

Ant-Man opens on July 17. Tell us, are you excited to check it out once it hits theatres? Sound off below!

Channing Tatum Talks GAMBIT Costume And More !!!!!

In a new interview with Digital Spy, Magic Mike XXL star Channing Tatum talked about his costume for the forthcoming X-Men spinoff film Gambit."It's all being worked on at the moment," said Tatum. "I'm from the south, so I know who to go to, to find the accent. I haven't found 'the guy' yet, because that's generally how I do accents is that I'll find the guy who I want to sound like and not just do a generic Cajun accent. So I haven't found the guy yet, but cards are always right there, actually."

Asked about the costume, he said, "That's kind of the fun part -- to massage it. You can't just do it how people think; you want to give it some basic reality. And if you do do it, you want to make it sort of relative to the reality

King & Walta To Launch "The Vision" Ongoing This October

A longtime Avenger, the Vision has had a complicated history and possibly an even more complicated family life. Now, thanks to writer Tom King and artist Gabriel Hernandez Walta, the Vision will get a fresh start in his own ongoing solo this October as he builds himself a family and moves into the suburbs in "The Vision" #1.

In an interview with Newsarama, King revealed that his Vision will be "back to basics." He shared, "With this series we’re going to strip all that noise away and return to the simple, sweet, and amazingly compelling set up Roy Thomas first gave the character: a robot built to be a weapon who wants to be a human, who wants to be a hero. He's the powerful stranger who for some flattering reason wants to be like us. Vision is Data. Vision is Spock. Vision is Superman."

"The new book begins with Vision creating a family, just as Ultron once created Vision," King explained. "Vision wants to be ordinary, and what's more ordinary than a house, a wife, and two loving kids? So he makes a wife, Virginia, and two 16 year old twins, Viv and Val. They move to the suburbs of D.C. They have neighbors. Vision has a new job. The children start school. Virginia explores possible careers. Everything is perfect. Everything is ordinary."

However, according to King, that tranquility isn't destined to last: "Then everything goes wrong. And what goes wrong will shake the Marvel Universe."

"Magneto" artist Walta will join King on the title.

King aims for the story, at its core, to touch upon some distinctly human problems as well. "The theme of this story is integration, how a family that is not 'normal' lives and thrives in a modern American community. Vision and his family are going through what millions of us have gone and are still going through. Can they be treated as equals? Can they be trusted? Because they’re different, does that somehow make them less?"

Likewise, the series will get some human visitors. "Part of the fun conflict that drives this book will come from how Vision’s old natural very non-traditional family reacts to his new unnatural very traditional family. In fact, the first issue features a family member returning to Vision’s life. It does not go well."

"I couldn’t believe my luck when Gabriel [Hernandez Walta] agreed to do this book," he added. "His style reminds of a combination of Frank Quietly and Dave Gibbons, two artists I worship. He excels at creating the quiet moments that I love to write in my comic books, the moments that create the tension for the inevitable outbreak of violence. With Gabriel on the book, I feel we can tell stories unlike any others in the comic market, stories that will surprise and thrill our readers." Jordie Bellaire will also work on the title as color artist.

"The Vision" #1 arrives at retailers this October.

Witchblade Ending ; Sejic Now Top Cow Exclusive !!!

Stjepan Sejic has confirmed that with the news of his exclusive deal with Top Cow, he is no longer the artist of "Rat Queens," published by fellow Image Comics imprint Shadowline. Sejic cited health issues for delays, and said that while he's leaving "Rat Queens," he'll be replaced by an as-yet unnamed "wonderfully skilled artist."

Truth is, this was a bad year for me health-wise," Sejic wrote in a post on the CBR Community forum. "As you will soon see in my letter of apology for lateness in "IXth Generation" #4... I ignored my thyroid condition until it threw my liver out of whack and I spent the last two months in perpetual nausea. I believe 'Rat Queens' fans deserve better than a delay after delay on such a wonderful book so I offered to step down. Luckily, I am to be replaced by a wonderfully skilled artist."

Sejic was announced as the new artist of the Kurtis Wiebe-written series in December 2014, following the departure of original "Rat Queens" artist Roc Upchurch.

Meanwhile, Top Cow Productions is set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of “Witchblade” this October -- by ending the series.

CBR is reporting that "Witchblade" will come to a close with October's issue #185.

"The end of the ongoing 'Witchblade' series with issue #185 is the end of Sara Pezzini as the Witchblade bearer," said Top Cow President Matt Hawkins, adding that nothing "cliffhangery-dramatic" is planned for the final issue. "She doesn't die, but has loose ends to wrap up before her retuirement. One of her key character traits has always been that she didn't want the Witchblade to fall into the hands of a woman who would use it for evil. Long term fans will be pleased with how her character wraps up. We've been planning for the 20th anniversary for a long time now, and the timing just worked out that we could do it this."

"Witchblade" #185 will feature a main story by regular writer Ron Marz, along with a backup co-written by Hawkins and Marc Silvestri. A variety of "Witchblade" artists past and present will contribute to the issue, including Sejic, Keu Cha, Randy Green, Nelson Blake II and Brian Ching.

"We want to give her the proper send off," Hawkins said. "Ron Marz is writing the forward story to wrap up her personal life. I'm writing the back story with Marc Silvestri and this part is about what to do about the Witchblade so that it doesn't fall into wrong hands. This series of 'auditions,' for lack of a better way to say it, is where I've been allowed the luxury of doing a series of short stories with a variety of artists." Also included in "Witchblade" #185 is the series' original artist, Michael Turner, who passed away in 2008. The main cover will be an homage to his cover of 1995's "Witchblade" #1, and his work will be represented inside the issue, as well.

"The Michael Turner short is a rescripted short from a scene that he drew 20 years ago," Hawkins said. "It seemed fitting to allow Mike to be involved with the end of the character's story that his creative involvement was so pivotal in."

"Witchblade" debuted in 1995, created by Silvestri, Turner, David Wohl and Brian Haberlin. The series soon became a hit and inspired a TNT television series that ran for two seasons, while also being criticized at times as an example of '90s comic book excess.

In recent years, the series moved away from the scantily clad depictions of the main character to generally more covered-up depictions.

Along with the end of "Witchblade," October also brings a new 20th anniversary "Art of" hardcover celebrating the two-decade run of the series.

"This is a carefully selected series of images from the character's 20-year history that we're putting together in this special limited edition hardcover," Hawkins shared. "It will only be printed once and won't be offered as a softcover. Some new pieces, some classic pieces with art by fantastic artists like Michael Turner, Marc Silvestri, Dave Finch, Joe Benitez and many others."
