New Poster for the Constantine Animated Series on CW Seed

The Constantine animated series that was announced for CW Seed back in January at the Television Critics Association winter press tour has gotten a brand new poster. The series will feature the voice of Matt Ryan, who starred as the title character in the live-action NBC series, which aired for one season. The Constantine animated series will consist of five to six 10-minute episodes and will premiere in 2018. You can stream the live-action series on CW Seed right now.

This all-new animated series, from Warner Bros. Animation and Blue Ribbon Content, follows DC’s popular comic book character John Constantine (voiced by the live-action series star Matt Ryan), a seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult. Armed with an arcane knowledge of the dark arts and a wicked wit, he fights the good fight. With his soul already damned to hell, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. With the balance of good and evil on the line‎, Constantine uses his skills to face the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.

The Constantine animated series is produced by David S. Goyer (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, The Dark Knight trilogy and the Constantine live-action series), Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl) and Sarah Schechter (Riverdale, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow). It’s produced by Butch Lukic (Justice League Action, Batman Unlimited), written by J.M. DeMatteis (Justice League Dark, Batman vs. Robin) and will be directed by Doug Murphy (Justice League Action, Young Justice).

Fans at New York Comic Con this Sunday can check out a three-minute sneak peek at the Constantine animated series at the beginning of the Warner Bros. Television panel in the Hammerstein Ballroom at 2 p.m. Are you excited for the new series? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned for more news from NYCC!

Darkseid’s Daughter is Back: Who Is Grail?

Darkseid’s Daughter is Back: Who Is Grail?

This week’s release of Wonder Woman #31 brought with it the arrival of a new creative team in writer James Robinson and artist Carlo Pagulayan. Titled “Children of the Gods,” the pair’s story will pick up threads established over a year ago, when DC’s New 52 was at its dusk and DC Rebirth was just beginning. Not only will the storyline finally give us answers regarding the mystery of Diana Prince’s long-lost twin brother Jason, it will also feature the return of a fairly recent, albeit quite massive, addition to the DC Universe. Grail, the infamous daughter of Darkseid, has returned.

Although she hasn’t been seen since we caught a glimpse of her in last year’s DC Rebirth Special #1, the importance of Grail’s introduction and impact on the DCU can’t be overstated. She’s kept quiet for a while, but now she’s back, and it doesn’t bode well at all for Wonder Woman, considering the trail of death and destruction Grail left in her wake the last time she surfaced. The last time Grail interacted with DC’s heroes was in “Darkseid War,” a Justice League event that was published over two years ago, so it’s understandable if you’ve forgotten some details about who Grail is, or if you’re simply unfamiliar with the character at all.

Before DC entered the current Rebirth era, the New 52 essentially came to a close with Justice League: Darkseid War. Written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by the likes of Jason Fabok and Francis Manapul, the event not only featured Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor battling it out, it also saw many members of the Justice League take on brief roles as actual gods. For example, Superman became the opposite of himself as the god of Strength, Batman became the god of Knowledge, and the Flash became the god of Death. But, at its center, the story was about Diana Prince and her never-ending struggle of balancing her own existence as a creature of myth, a god, and a person.

Grail was the instigator of the entire event, having made her first appearance in the Free Comic Book Day issue Divergence, via a short story by Johns and Fabok that told her origin. As it turns out, just like Diana, Grail was born on Themyscira. Not only that, the two were born on the very same night, at the very same time. On one corner of Paradise Island, Hippolyta gave birth to Diana (and her twin brother Jason), and on the other, Myrina gave birth to Grail, a gray-skinned creature with red eyes — unmistakably Darkseid’s offspring.

Years later, mother and daughter resurfaced, scorned by Darkseid and ready to declare war upon him. Raised to despise and defeat her father, Grail is both New God and Amazon, a warrior as fierce and deadly as any dark god. She took out the entire Justice League without breaking a sweat and brought the worst villain in the universe to help in her cause: the being named Mobius, aka the Anti-Monitor. Since the Anti-God was fused with the Anti-Life Equation, she used him to destroy her father, and later took the powerful Equation for herself, effectively becoming the goddess of Anti-Life.

Will Silk Appear in Avengers: Infinity War?

Will Silk Appear in Avengers: Infinity War?

Rumors continue to persist that Cindy Moon aka Silk could make her big Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Avengers: Infinity War. Fans have been buzzing with excitement over Marvel Studios’ 10th-year-anniversary offering with the promise that all pockets of the MCU will collide in one massive production. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will finally cross paths with the Guardians of the Galaxy, an event initially set-up in this November’s upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, as well as, other newly introduced superheroes like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Marvel Studios’ next big ensemble project, their biggest yet, is just seven months away from hitting theaters and we continue to get a steady stream of speculations regarding the highly secretive film. This time, the intel could be huge for Spider-Man’s new lore in the rebooted superhero franchise as one of the characters from his own corner of the MCU could apparently pop up in the epic blockbuster.

A video posted to the official IMDB Twitter [h/t CBR] fuels rumors that Silk could appear in Infinity War. The character, who has already previously appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming as one of Peter’s classmates, is played by Tiffany Espensen. As it turns out, upon checking her IMDb profile, she seems to be signed on for the project where she’s set to reprise her role as Cindy.

Warner Bros. Confirms Standalone DC Movies Outside of DCEU Continuity

Warner Bros. Confirms Standalone DC Movies Outside of DCEU Continuity

Warner Bros. confirms standalone DC movies outside of DCEU continuity

A month ago, you could practically hear the collective necks of the internet snap in one direction as it was revealed Warner Bros. was developing a Joker movie from The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips, a solo movie that would not be in continuity with the other DCEU films like Suicide Squad, Batman v Superman, and Justice League. Confusion continued to linger as the tight-lipped studio wouldn’t reveal too much about the project, but now speaking with Vulture we know that the plans for the “DCEU” are changing at Warners.

Our intention, certainly, moving forward is using the continuity to help make sure nothing is diverging in a way that doesn’t make sense, but there’s no insistence upon an overall story line or interconnectivity in that universe,” DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson tells the outlet about their plans moving forward.

This summer’s Wonder Woman was the first example of such, a solo film that briefly hinted at the larger DCEU but wasn’t so entrenched that it became a hindrance on the film. It went on to become the highest-grossing movie in the DCEU and one of the highest-grossing Warner Bros. movies of all time. The studio plans on taking a similar approach with the upcoming Aquaman as well.

Some of the movies do connect the characters together, like Justice League. But, like with Aquaman our goal is not to connect Aquaman to every movie,” chief creative officer Geoff Johns said.

The pair confirmed that the standalone films like The Joker one are very much part of their plan moving forward, and they would be under their very own film label, which will be officially announced to the world “soon-ish.”

What do you think about DC’s plans to keep their films purposefully separate and even make solo films out of the larger continuity? Sound off in the comments below!

Movies based on video games are almost never a good idea. Reboots of movies based on video games couldn't possibly be any better, right? Or maybe that's the way to do it?

Regardless, nearly 17 years after Angelina Jolie's original foray as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, Oscar winner Alicia Vikander will take over in the upcoming movie of the same name.

WEAPON X: STRIKING FIRST !!!!!!!

WEAPON X: STRIKING FIRST !!!!!!!

Getting inside the twisted mind of Stryker with writer Greg Pak!

Behind every Hulk-Wolverine hybrid stands a megalomaniacal and bigoted man named Stryker.

In the latest chapter of Weapon H’s tortured story, the madman continues his quest to destroy mutantkind. In response, Sabertooth wants to kill the Weapon before things get worse—though he’ll be met with resistance in the form of claws…as Logan and Laura Kinney join the fight. On October 11, Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente join artists Marc Borstel and Ibraim Roberson for “The Hunt for Weapon H: Part 3” in WEAPON X #9!

We spoke with Greg Pak to get a closer look at William Stryker and the newest iteration of the Weapon X program.

Marvel.com: Does Stryker have an end goal in mind here (other than the eradication of all mutants)?

Greg Pak: Honestly, that’s pretty much it. He’s a racist sociopath who’s convinced himself that God wants him to rid the world of mutants. He has other side goals along the way, and if he actually succeeded, he’d probably come up with a new target—because someone with that much hate in his heart always comes up with more targets. But his primary goal has always been the extermination of mutants.

Marvel.com: He’s been involved with Weapon X before—tell us more about his return to the program.

Greg Pak: He teams up with a genius scientist named Dr. Alba, who’s bioengineering the world’s most perfect killing machine with the DNA of various mutants and super heroes, including The Hulk and Logan.

What makes this delicious is that we’ve recently learned that Alba and Stryker have slightly different goals that may create massive problems for Stryker very soon. We’re also going to learn a bit more about what makes Stryker tick. Literally. I can’t say more.

Marvel.com: What kind of relationships does Stryker have with the mutants he’s hunting?

Greg Pak: He actually teamed up with Lady Deathstrike once upon a time. So there’s always the question of whether everyone on the team could really be completely on board. The team’s full of loners and actual criminals, so exactly how long their allegiance will last might change at any moment.

Marvel.com: The Hulk recently saved Stryker from Logan, Sabretooth, and Lady Deathstrike—does he feel indebted to the Hulk for that moment of mercy?

Greg Pak: Nope. I don’t think Stryker feels normal emotions like that. I think he’s wholly convinced of his personal righteousness and the correctness of his crusade and sees everyone else he encounters as tools for his use in pursuing that crusade. He might pretend to feel indebted, but only if it might benefit him at some point down the line. But he’ll never genuinely feel moral indebtedness to the Hulk—or probably anyone else.

Marvel.com: How does Stryker keep one step ahead of the mutants he’s trying to kill?

Greg Pak: You’ll have to read the books to find out! But no one on the team has strength and ruthlessness on the same level as Weapon H, the monster that Alba created for Stryker. So as long as Stryker controls Alba enough to control Weapon H, our heroes are in for a world of pain.

Follow WEAPON X #9, by Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente with art by Marc Borstel and Ibraim Roberson, on October 11!
