At the Warner Bros.' panel for Comic-Con International: San Diego, a video was shown teasing the upcoming "Justice League" movie.

More a sizzle reel than an actual trailer, the footage shows Bruce Wayne making his pitch to Aquaman and Flash to join his and Wonder Woman's team -- to varying degrees of success. While we don;t see Batman's initial encounter with Cyborg, the cybernetic hero is accounted for in the footage as well, alongside his new teammates.

SDCC: DC Highlights a New Era of Crossovers !!!!!

SDCC: DC Highlights a New Era of Crossovers !!!!!

Arising from a question as old as comics -- "Who would win in a fight between Superman and Thor?" -- intercompany crossovers hold a special place in the hearts of fandom, and have created some truly memorable battles and team-ups. After hitting their heyday in the 1990s and reaching possibly their apex in 2004 with "JLA/Avengers," though, the heroic mash-ups grew more and more infrequent as the 21st century progressed. But DC Comics has taken up the banner once more, with recent hits like "Star Trek/Green Lantern" and "Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" -- both of which had sequels announced at Comic-Con International in San Diego -- as well as the current "Gotham Academy/Lumberjanes" and the forthcoming "Thundercats/He-Man." Celebrating the new era at a Saturday morning panel are DC All Access' Jason Inman moderating, the "Thundercats/He-Man" writing team of Rob David and Lloyd Goldfine, editors Jim Chadwick and Hank Kanalz, "Gotham Academy/Lumberjanes" writer Chynna Clugston-Flores, "Batman '66 Meets Steed and Mrs. Peel" writer Steve Orlando, "Batman/TMNT" team of James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams and BOOM! Studios' Dafna Pleban, who edits the "Gotham Academy/Lumberjanes" book.

"Every day, even now, when people bring up that book and ask for it to get signed, it's insane that it exists and insane that we got to do it," Tynion said of the "Batman/TMNT" crossover. "It's one of the most fun things I've done in my entire career."

Williams said both Batman and the Turtles "are very malleable, they've been successful with very different art styles." "What I was harkening back to was the Eastman/Laird style, there was a lot of grey or grey tones," he said, which "applies to both franchises very well."

Tynion said he enjoyed turning all of the Arkham villains into Turtles-style mutants, including polar bear Mr Freeze and cobra Joker. "It's one of the most insane things I've ever done in a comic book, and it could really only happen in this comic book," Tynion said. Another favorite scene is Batman revealing his origin to Raphael in Crime Alley.

The animated-style "Batman/TMNT Adventures" written by Matt Manning and art by Jon Sommariva will be handled by IDW, Chadwick explained, with DC approval, trading off the process for the first series.

Kanalz said "there's been a resurgence of interest in 'Batman: The Animated Series,' so it's great to cross them over."

Next Chadwick spoke about the "Star Trek/Green Lantern" sequel written by Mike Johnson and Angel Hernandez. "This is a direct sequel of the previous series," Chadwick said, noting that "anybody who died is still dead." "The Lanterns are still not in their own universe, and they've basically joined Starfleet."

"In the first series there was a major character [Johnson] wanted to kill off, and we said no," Chadwick said, suggesting this character may meet his or her fate in the forthcoming series.

On "Batman '66," Chadwick said, "I've never worked on a series that has more people wanting to work on it. I'm getting pitches from everybody." The crossover with Steed and Mrs. Peel came from a meeting with BOOM! Studios head Ross Richie. "Just so Peel gets to meet Catwoman, let's do it."

David, Goldfine, and Williams then talked about the "He-Man/Thundercats" miniseries debuting in October. "There's so many similarities, but there are also some important differences," David said, giving the story "emotional cores" to explore.

"We really are going for the classic versions of these shows," David said. "Let's take the nostalgia and run with it.

"Both He-Man and Thundercats were integral to who I am," Williams said. "They were kind of an auto-gift when I was growing up, so in my head I've been crossing them over for years." He added that he used many of the same techniques for the art style as his work on "Batman/TMNT."

Chadwick said that, after the "Star Trek/Green Lantern" book with IDW, Williams blind-emailed him with Turtles samples in case a crossover ever happened. "He didn't even know we were already talking about "Batman/Turtles,'" Chadwick said. But seeing the samples, the editor said, "That was easy, I've got my guy."

Clugston-Flores was up next to discuss "Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy." "They actually really do go together really well," she said.

"You have such a large cast, as well," Pleban said. "It's like 'Game of Thrones, man, you can lose a character so easily." She said that the editors want to keep track of each character to "make sure everybody gets a cool moment."

"I had to tone [Pom] down a little bit, I have a tendency to make people a little too sarcastic in their jabs," Clugsten-Flores said.

Orlando spoke next about "Batman: Night of the Monster Men," a crossover running through the core Batman books beginning in September. "This is the Batman movie Guillermo del Toro would love to direct. It's got kaiju Toho monsters that are adorable but also kind of revolting," he said, adding that one is "kind of a cute baby but kind of made of puss." The crossover is co-written with Tom King, and Riley Rossmo is the primary artist and designer for the monsters.

"I will say there's a Batman and Clayface team up that no one's ever seen before, and it's my favorite thing in the book," Orlando said.

Kanalz said "we've finalized a deal for something really, really, really cool that we'll be announcing probably sometime in the next month -- when you see it you'll know that's what I'm talking about."

SDCC: King, Snyder & More Explore Batman's "Rebirth !!!!

SDCC: King, Snyder & More Explore Batman's "Rebirth !!!!

Batman has officially changed hands. Following "Batman: Rebirth," "The Vision" scribe Tom King has taken the reins of the "Batman" solo title from longtime writer Scott Snyder ("All-Star Batman") -- and this isn't the only major shakeup for DC Comics' Bat-titled. Julie and Shawna Benson have launched an all-new "Batgirl and the Birds of Prey" book, while James Tynion IV helms "Detective Comics." Together, these Bat-writers took the stage at Comic-Con Internation in San Diego to offer fans an exclusive first look at the Dark Knight's future. "Batman" group editor Mark Doyle introduced the writers as they took the stage.

"I was working on 'Batman' with Greg [Capullo] -- he says hi -- and... he wanted to sort of try something different for a bit before he comes back to do stuff with me... So I came up with this idea where I investigate all the villains I never got to use," Snyder said of "All-Star Batman." "There are some superstars like John Romita, Jock... and some newcomers, like Afua Richardson."

"I was left to do something that was more like off-roading with Batman in the Batmobile," he continued. "Our version of Two-Face... looks at you with this sort of blood red eye." He explained that Two-Face will be a secret-keeper of Gotham.

"I read a lot of scripts... and 'All-Star Batman' #1 is the best script I've ever read," King shared. "Honestly."

"This is a series where every weird villain [shows up]," Snyder added. "A big villain in this is KGBeast."

"We had this argument over whether Batman is funny or not. I think he's just mean!" he said as he explained his first issue of "All-Star Batman." "I just got to shout out John Romita on this book... We're having such a good time. Dean White -- the colors are out of control."

"Another part of the book is the backups about Duke Thomas. It's like the secret life of Robin," he revealed, praising Jordie Bellaire's work on it.

Doyle then handed the microphone over to King. "Mikel [Janin] is my brother -- we did 'Grayson' together... so when I think comics, I think Mikel in my mind. We're doing something unique with 'Batman' with the double-ship... and when we stepped up to the double-ship, we committed to... giving you the quality without missing one deadline," King promised. "David Finch is doing five issues, and Mikel is doing five issues [for the next story arc]. At the end of the year, you will have three complete trades with three complete stories."

He also revealed that Cyborg and Flash will show up in "Batman," though he offered no details about what they would be doing in the issue.

"The idea behind Batman that I wanted to do -- I grew up with the animated series -- so David and I got on the phone," King said, explaining that they both wanted to do a classic Batmobile based on "Batman: The Animated Series."

"So Scott and I were at a con drinking scotch from a bottle, and we literally played like a game show because we're crazy nerds. And we were like, 'What hasn't been done with Batman?'" King recalled. "It was a challenge. The thing with mine is that... when a writer gets Batman, they introduce a villain." He went on to explain that he wanted to take the opposite route and introduce a hero instead, and thus Gotham and Gotham Girl were born.

As to "Detective Comics," Tynion praised the return to the series' original number as a way to honor the title's legacy. "It means the world, especially because it's a tremendous honor to take part in that legacy and also because it's a challenge... you have to try to do something new and different and exciting," he shared.

"The biggest thing I wanted when I was a kid was a Batman team book," he said. "There are a lot of incredible 'Detective' stories that have always been the 'other' 'Batman' title... I wanted to do something about how he relates to each other characters in the Batman family."

He went on to describe why Batwoman was so central to the series, referencing her relation to Bruce Wayne and why they function of the nucleus of the title.

This book is my dream book. This is what I've wanted to do with Gotham city since I was a teenager," he shared. "I'm just so excited -- and just look at this art! [Eddie Barrows] is doing the work of his career... I'm just so honored to be a part of this team... it's passion on every page."

King praised Tnyion's work, comparing it to the "soap opera feel" of the original "Uncanny X-Men" series.

"Clayface is one of the most fascinating villains to me. He serves so many purposes... you want a character who's striking on a cover next to everyone," Tynion shared, adding that Clayface can perform "Black Ops"-esque missions due to this shapeshifting abilities. "The heart of the character is a man who went down the wrong path."

"Clayface will be one of your favorite Batman characters for the rest of your lives when you're finished reading this series," he concluded.

"Batgirl and the Birds of Prey" came up next. "Who is Oracle? Well, Oracle is a big part of Barbara's background... We wanted to get her focused on a mission that would be personal," said Benson. "Having that being the focus felt organic to what already happened in the past. It's so cool to go back to the original three [Batgirl, Huntress and Black Canary]... It's been really, really fun... [Batman] may or may not show up."

"Claire Roe is so rock-and-roll," she said of the artwork. "She's just killing it... It really is a good marriage between the art and what we're trying to do."

"All three of these characters are coming from their own individual books... so getting to bring all those women together into one book is a lot of fun," Benson shared. "We kind of just took the ball that was going and just running with it."

Steve Orlando, who had been sitting in the audience, then joined the stage to discuss "Batman: Night of the Monster Men."

"The first scene with Hugo [Strange] is he's completely naked," Orlando said. "Hugo is like Batman without the tragedy. He want to perfect his body and mind; he thinks he's the only sane person in Gotham... They perfectly contrast each other."

"It's always amazing reading Steve's script... like what I could accomplish in three issues, he gets in one," Tynion said. "We wanted to go with the biggest, funnest, craziest things we could give you guys, and I think we got it."

Asked if Batman will meet Midnighter, Orlando said, "I would do all those things in a second... As you saw 'Midnighter and Apollo,' there's a plan for these characters. If you raise your voice enough, anything is possible. Keep letting us know you want this."

"If you are a Tim Drake fan, you are going to be very excited," Tynion teased.

As to whether Spoiler and Orphan will join "Birds of Prey," Benson said, "We would love to add more characters to the Bird of Prey... If we can steal them from James!"

"These woman just happen to do a lot of punching," Benson said of "Birds of Prey." "It's important to make these woman sexy without being sexualized, to make sure they don't fall into things like cat-fighting... that's not who they are."

"They respect each other," Benson added. "I think that's how women usually react. We might disagree, but we totally respect that opinion."

"What I love about DC is that they're totally behind this. The opportunity to give them a voice is unreal... I think people are ready for this."

SDCC: "Attack on Titan Anthology" Digs In !!!!

SDCC: "Attack on Titan Anthology" Digs In !!!!

As the mystery of the murderous Titans, grotesque giants who have all but wiped out the human race, continues to unfurl in Hajime Isayama's blockbuster manga, Kodansha Comics is readying a new look at the epic of young Eren Jaeger, bringing in some of comics' greatest talents from outside of Japan for "Attack on Titan Anthology." The publisher previewed the anthology for Free Comic Book Day, and now Kodansha is prepared to reveal a bit more at Comic-Con International in San Diego. On hand for the panel are Kodansha editor Ben Applegate, Kate Leth, Jeremy Lambert, Brendan Fletcher, and Ronald Wimberly, with Jody Houser joining later. CBR will have live updates, so make sure you don't venture outside this page!

Applegate began with an announcement about a deluxe edition of "Ghost in the Shell," the first three volumes with original Japanese sound effects and right to left orientation for the first time. Kodansha will also publish a deluxe box set of "Akira," all six volumes in hardcover, in right to left with original sound effects.

After a trailer for the anthology, Applegate showed pin-ups from Kevin Wada, Paulo Rivera, and Afua Richardson. Michael Avon Oeming will contribute a story, as will Fletcher, Cameron Stewart, and Babs Tarr, which will be set in at a convention. Asaf and Tomer Hanuka have a short, and Evan Dorkin will do gag strips. WImberly's first image from his story appeared, which seems to show a Titans puppet show. Wimberly said there are many real-life cameos in the story, including an appearance by a well-known person Applegate described as "a certain orange American."

Sam Humphries and Damion Scott are doing a story Applegate described as "Roald Dahl meets Attack on Titan. "The adults don't come out of this story intact," Applegate said.

Other teams include Simon Spurrier, Kate Brown, and Paul Duffield; Faith Erin Hicks, whose tale "Begins as a serious AoT drama and then goes somewhere completely different;" an in-universe travelogue from Genevieve Valentine and David Lopez; Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque, whose story Applegate said "is incredibly timely and very dramatic;" Phil Jimenez and Gail Simone, with Jimenez also doing a Diamond-exclusive cover. Paulo Rivera will do an exclusive cover for Books A Million and its Fried Pie distributor, Faith Erin Hicks will have an exclusive at Barnes and Noble, and there will be a New York Comic Con exclusive cover by Paul Pope. "This is only part of the image," Applegate said of the reveal on screen.

Discussing the appeal of the "Attack on Titan" manga and anime, the creators spoke enthusiastically of the technique and storytelling.

“It’s kaiju, it’s giant robots, it’s body horror--It’s a synthesis of a lot of different genres,” Wimberly said.

“You think you know what happens in stories – the protagonist definitely survives, right?” Leth joked.

“Those tiny panels,” Wimberly said. “As an artist, some of the things he’s doing are really interesting as an artist. That’s a rhythm.” Applegate said he would like to rotate all the captions 90 degrees to more accurately reflect the Japanese reading experience.

As to how to describe it to a new reader a la an elevator pitch, Wimberly offered, "It's like 'Evil Dead' meets 'Evangelion.'"

"The Si Spurrier story is all about" the titans' childlike element, Applegate said. Wimberly added, "hey, if you just found a bunch of delicious things to eat, wouldn't you look like that too?"

Leth joked that editor Janine Schaefer prompted her to "add more murder."

"As someone who grew up on 'Sailor Moon' and CLAMP, I thought, 'oh, this is anime, this will be fine," Leth said. Applegate recounted some of his notes to Leth about killing major characters.

"My main note for Ron was 'less S&M,'" Applegate said.

"I basically pitched a graphic novel," Wimberly said. "You're doing 'Attack on Titan,' you want to do a whole year of it."

As Wimberly departed, Babs Tarr joined the panel.

"When I do get into horror, I really like the descent into madness, the unreliable narrator," Leth said, "so our story will do a lot of that.

Who Is "The Walking Dead's" Ezekiel - And Why Does He Have a Pet Tiger?

Who Is "The Walking Dead's" Ezekiel - And Why Does He Have a Pet Tiger?

SPOILER WARNING: Major spoilers from AMC's "The Walking Dead" (and the Image comic series it's adapted from) follow.

When the Season 7 trailer for "The Walking Dead" arrived at Comic-Con International in San Diego, it appeared to be a retrospective showcase for the show rather than forward looking teaser. The first half focused each of Negan's potential victims, highlighting key moments from their time on the show as they await the wrath of his barbed-wire baseball bat, Lucille. While that's very much in line with the life-flashes-before-your-eyes theme of the Season 6 finale "Last Day On Earth," the first minute or so of the teaser had viewers wondering whether new footage would be held back from the show's SDCC panel.

Then, lo and behold, the trailer exploded with new footage, including confirmation the introduction of The Kingdom, nearby community that wants to stop The Saviors as much as Alexandria does. The show hinted at this mysterious, Medieval-themed locale (stationed in a school, in Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's Image Comics series) towards the end of last season, when Rick, Morgan and Carol pursued a rider on horseback who appeared to be wearing armor. Shortly afterwards, they discovered an archaic-looking spear used to kill a nearby walker.

As we noted at the time, this didn't necessarily mean the mysterious character was from The Kingdom, especially since his protection looked more like combat gear than the more extravagant armor and helmets found in the source material. The new trailer, however, confirmed our suspicions, going as far to show more shots of several guards and -- in the biggest reveal of all -- their self-proclaimed king, Ezekiel. Brought to life by Khary Payton, the voice of Cyborg on the "Teen Titans" and "Teen Titans GO!" animated series, Ezekiel is easily the most eccentric figure to ever grace the pages of "The Walking Dead" -- even more so than out-there baddies like Negan and the yet-to-be-introduced-on-television Whisperers. Visually distinctive as well, he sports a head full of dreadlocks, an ornate staff, feathers in his hair, and -- wait for it -- a pet tiger named Shiva. All of these traits appear to have made their way to television, though the character appears to be a bit younger.

Ezekiel Tiger The Walking Dead Comics

The tiger, frankly, comes as the biggest surprise. As cool as it is for a fearsome jungle cat to be wandering around a zombie-filled wasteland, Shiva's presence always feels a tad strange in the comics. As such, it might be even more jarring to see her in the flesh (or in the CGI) on the show. Then again, the world of "The Walking Dead" is a chaotic one, and when you think about it, if the zombie uprising ever did actually occur, there would probably be some people who'd take on zoo animals as pets/personal guardians. In Ezekiel's case, he actually knew Shiva long before the collapse of civilization, having cared for her as a zookeeper ever since she was a cub. Their bond became unbreakable when, after the feline slashed his stomach, he continued to feed and nurture her.

If all of that sounds theatrical, it's very much meant to be. In the comics, Ezekiel also has a theatre background, which comes in handy when he establishes The Kingdom, developing a unique, over-the-top facade for his subjects to look up to, all while still remaining practical and fair in his leadership. Naturally, he becomes an important ally to Alexandria and Hilltop, even though -- as we discover -- he's certainly not without his faults.

It's unclear at this point how much of his backstory and personality will make its way into the show, but hey, they threw the tiger in there, so anything's possible! Tune in to the Season 7 premiere on Sunday, October 23, at 9 p.m. ET to see what else survives the jump from page to screen.

SDCC: "Thor: Ragnarok" Props Confirm "Planet Hulk" Elements !!!!1

SDCC: "Thor: Ragnarok" Props Confirm "Planet Hulk" Elements !!!!1

At Comic-Con International: San Diego, props were revealed from "Thor: Ragnarok" that confirm -- as widely speculated -- that elements of the "Planet Hulk" storyline will be in the film.

Among the reports suggesting that "Planet Hulk" elements would factor into "Thor: Ragnarok," one noted that Hulk would engage in a gladiatorial battle on a "distant planet" at some point in the film -- and this look to confirm that.

In the original "Planet Hulk" storyline, Hulk is banished into space by an elite group of heroes called The Illuminati, consisting of Mr. Fantastic, Iron Man, Professor X, Black Bolt, Namor and Black Panther. Instead of landing on a peaceful planet, as the Illuminati intended, Hulk ends up on the planet Sakaar, a violent world in which gladiators are forced to battle for the emperor, the Red King. Hulk becomes embroiled in a rebellion that ends with him being crowned the new ruler of Sakaar.

While we don't know if Sakaar will feature in "Thor: Ragnarok," Hulk and Thor are confirmed to be taking a trip to some kind of distant planet in the film.

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban and Anthony Hopkins, "Thor: Ragnarok" hits theaters November 3, 2017.
