Marvel Announces Darth Maul Series From Cullen Bunn, Luke Ross

Marvel’s “Star Wars” line will continue to turn out new titles in 2017, and the fan favorite short-lived Sith Lord will be one of the line’s new stars. As revealed by USA Today, a new limited series starring Darth Maul will arrive in 2017. “Darth Maul” will be written by Cullen Bunn (“Uncanny X-Men,” “The Sixth Gun”) with art by Luke Ross” (Marvel’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” adaptation).

The limited series is set before the angry Sith Lord’s debut in 1999’s “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,” a film that ended with the evil Jedi defeated and cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi. This series will show part of Maul’s origin as he trains under Darth Sidious, the man that would eventually become Emperor Palpatine. And no, Maul’s not the kind to take orders easily. And because he’s forbidden from engaging the Jedi in combat just yet, Maul instead takes out his frustration on the denizens of the dark underworld of the cosmos.

But Maul will run across a young Jedi padawan named Eldra Kaitis — a padawan that he both wants to test his own mettle against and potentially turn tot he dark side.

In an accompanying interview, Bunn told USA Today that he looked to Ray Park’s performance as Maul in his lone feature film appearance for inspiration. “I like seeding where that impatience and anger comes from,” said Bunn, referencing his caged animal ready to pounce body language during the film’s climactic two-on-one lightsaber duel. Bunn also teased that Darth Sidious will not be a “very warm teacher.”

Marvel’s “Darth Maul” limited series follows in a now long line of series focusing on one particular character. Previous limited series include “Princess Leia,” “Chewbacca,” “Lando,” “Han Solo” and “Obi-Wan and Anakin.” “Darth Maul” is slated to arrivein early 2017.

Star Wars Poe Dameron’ Comic Explores Poe’s Adventures. Coming soon !!!!!

When Marvel’s Star Wars: Poe Dameron comic arrives in stores next month, it will be the first official glimpse fans have had of the dashing flyboy hero since his introduction in The Force Awakens — and with Episode VIII still a couple of years away, the ongoing series may be the only fix of Poe we get for a while.

That means there’s a lot of pressure on writer Charles Soule and artist Phil Noto to satisfy the fans. Judging from the preview pages released by Marvel, we can at the very least expect entertaining skybound antics, Poe Dameron looking handsome, and some probably adorable interactions with BB-8. That’s pretty good for four pages, but it does leave one big question unanswered.

Namely, will this comic introduce the ex-boyfriend that broke Poe’s heart and left him vulnerable but ready to love again when he first ran into (and named) Finn?

Come on, we’re all thinking it.

PLEASE READ !!!!!! Star Wars’ Masks, Weapons Banned by Theater Chains !!!

"Star Wars" fans will have to curtail their costumes when heading to "The Force Awakens" screenings next month.

A number of theater chains including Cinemark and AMC have banned masks, simulated weapons and face paint for the upcoming sci-fi hit directed by J.J. Abrams.

"AMC does not permit weapons or items that would make other guests feel uncomfortable or detract from the movie-going experience. Guests are welcome to come dressed in costume, but we do not permit masks," the chain said in a statement on its website Monday.

"In short, bring your lightsaber, turn it off during the movie, and leave the blaster and Darth Vader mask at home."

Texas-based company Cinemark, the third largest theater chain in the U.S., will not even allow iconic lightsabers into its 334 theaters around the country.

"'Star Wars' costumes are welcome. However, no face coverings, face paint, or simulated weapons (including lightsabers/blasters) will be allowed in the building," posters for Episode VII state.

The new restrictions come in the wake of recent violent incidents at movie theaters including a 2012 shooting rampage during an Aurora, Colorado, screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" that killed 12 people and injured 70 others, and an attack on a Lafayette, Louisiana, screening of "Trainwreck" earlier this year in which two people were killed and nine others injured.

The latest installment in the "Star Wars" franchise stars newcomers Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Adam Driver along with returning favorites Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits theaters on Dec. 18.

Josh Trank Leaves ‘Star Wars’ Standalone Film .....

Fantastic Four” director Josh Trank won’t be journeying to the “Star Wars” universe after all. In a statement posted Friday on StarWars.com, the director explained that he’s made “a personal decision to move forward on a different path,” and will instead focus on developing original properties.

Trank was officially revealed last June to be directing a standalone “Star Wars” movie, which have since officially been titled “Anthology” films — set in the same continuity as the trilogies, yet telling separate stories. Though no details were yet revealed on Trank’s film, it’s said that Disney and Lucasfilm will continue to develop the project despite his departure.

The director was scheduled to speak, alongside “Star Wars: Rogue One” director Gareth Edwards, at a panel dedicated to the Anthology films last month at Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, but did not appear due to a reported illness. Trank’s “Fantastic Four” is scheduled for release on Aug. 7; a sequel has already been scheduled for June 9, 2017, though there’s no word yet on if Trank will return.

Here’s his statement in full:

After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities. That said, the Star Wars universe has always been one of my biggest influences, and I couldn’t be more excited to witness its future alongside my millions of fellow Star Wars fans. I want to thank my friends Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, Simon Kinberg, and everyone at Lucasfilm and Disney for the amazing opportunity to have been a part of this. May the Force be with you all.

Lucasfilm VP of Development Kiri Hart added: “It was a privilege to collaborate with Josh. We are grateful for the energy and love of Star Wars that he brought to the process, and we wish him all the best.”
